Heinz is changing the label of its ketchup, and behind this change, there is a very interesting reason.
Many restaurants reuse Heinz ketchup containers after they run out and refill them with lower quality ketchup. All of this is done to give the impression that the restaurant is using high-quality ketchup.
In Turkey, Heinz decided to modify its labeling by adding a red line around the label that exactly matches the color of its ketchup. This allows consumers to differentiate when the restaurant is actually using Heinz and when it is using another brand.
If the color of the label doesn't match the color of the sauce in the bottle, people will know it's not the brand's original ketchup.
“We wanted to eliminate this so-called ‘ketchup fraud’ and create an innovative solution that helps customers identify whether they are consuming the genuine product or an imitation.”
Packaging with the new control label has been distributed to several restaurants across the country. The team has also launched an Instagram filter that consumers can download and use at different restaurants to check the color of their ketchup.
In the United States, Heinz launched the “Ketchup Fraud” campaign, created by Rethink Toronto and New York, which also focuses on restaurants that refill their containers with generic ketchup.
Another change that we will talk about in the next post includes Heinz on the list of companies that needed to change the "Queen's Seal" information after the death of the British monarch.
until the next post!
Ps: Next week - The Webseries "The Power of Packaging" will have a super interesting publication for entrepreneurs!
